Dancing by the Chesapeake Bay: A Dance Portrait Session with Aubrey

Hey there, dance enthusiasts and photography lovers! I’m thrilled to share HOP Ambassador Aubrey’s Spotlight Session that unfolded along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at North Point State Park, just outside the city of Baltimore, MD. As a dance photographer, these moments were pure magic, and I can’t wait to take you behind the scenes of this dance portrait session.

Meeting Aubrey: A Forever HOP Ambassador

Let me introduce you to Aubrey, a true gem and a forever HOP Ambassador.  Aubrey has been on the HOP team since the very beginning – and I’ve been photographing her even longer than that. : ) The connection we share goes beyond the camera lens. From the very first session, Aubrey’s energy and passion for dance were contagious. With each click of the shutter, we’ve managed to capture not just poses, but emotions and stories that resonate deeply.  We both can’t get enough and often our dance portrait sessions last waaaaaay longer than they should because dancer, photographer and dance mom (aka. wardrobe consultant, stylist, photography assistant, and overall cheerleader) never want to stop shooting!

We usually start our session with some non-dance photos to keep momma happy – then Aubrey and I get to unleash our creative energy and ideas for capturing MOVEMENT together.

Okay, she’s gorgeous and now momma has a few non-dancer Aubrey portraits – now the REAL FUN begins!

A Twist of Fate: Chesapeake Bay Dance Adventure

As we all know, the past couple of years have thrown us curveballs, and our original portrait session plans for the beach in Ocean City, MD had to be reimagined due to a very ill timed case of COVID. But as they say, every cloud has a silver lining. Instead of the beach, we found ourselves along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, where nature’s beauty harmonized perfectly with Aubrey’s love of dance.

A Special Bond: Aubrey’s Mom

What makes these portraits even more special is the relationships that have blossomed along the way. Aubrey’s mom is not only a client but has become a dear friend.  Finding friends who are living parallel lives and being able to bounce thoughts and ideas off each other is priceless.  Her support and enthusiasm have been heartwarming, reminding me that photography is not just about images, but the connections we forge.

One of the best parts about dance photography is getting super creative while allowing the dancer to truly express not only who she is as a dancer, but who she is a person too. I love how these images capturing the heart of who Aubrey is – one part princess ballerina, one part fun, sassy and sporty.

Embracing the Moment

As the sun set on that breezy summer evening, we wrapped up another dance portrait session that will forever hold a special place in our hearts. The Chesapeake Bay, with its tranquil waves and breathtaking views, became our canvas for creativity and connection. It may not be the beach, but it was close – and there’s always next time!

A Final Note

Dance photography isn’t just about freezing motion; it’s about capturing the spirit and soul of a dancer. It’s about telling a story that words can’t fully express. As a Baltimore, MD dance photographer, moments like these remind me why I’m passionate about what I do. It’s about so much more than creating beautiful portraits.

If you’re looking for dance photography that goes beyond the ordinary, where every image has a tale to tell, I’m here to create that magic with you. Let’s celebrate the artistry of dance and the beauty of the Chesapeake Bay together.

Until next time, just keep dancing and keep capturing those precious moments!

Cheers,
